Students develop their own AI assistant in new course |
In a new FSW Honours College course students from various academic disciplines dive into the world of artificial intelligence (AI). The course, Artificial Intelligence: Understand and Create, was designed by Marc Cleiren and Pieter Pierrot to be accessible to all students, regardless of their prior programming experience.
The course offers students a comprehensive understanding of AI, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application. Marc Cleiren: “This course encourages students to team up and create AI assistants that can facilitate their academic journey, fostering collaboration and creativity.”

The winners of the Grassroots and Grass Shoots grants 2025-2026 have been announced. Nine (teams of) FSW lecturers will receive grants to innovate their teaching in the coming acadamic year. The new projects are very diverse in nature: from e-learning modules to chatbots and from online collaboration to vodcasts.

Are you a driven educational innovator with an idea for an ambitious innovation project that will improve the education of students at several faculties or the entire university? Or are you already developing such an innovation? Then submit your innovation for internal consideration and selection of the university’s nomination for the Dutch Education Award 2026 and/or the submission for the Comenius Leadership Fellowship 2026. Turn your Brightspace course into an exciting journey of discovery by using release conditions. With release conditions, you can set conditions a student has to fulfill before being allowed to access specific course content. This way, you can create a custom learning pathway through the materials in you course. For example:
- Students can only take week two's quiz until they received a passing grade fot the quiz in the first week.
- Students are required to post to a discussion topic before they can see a content module.
