Looking for a fun and interesting start to the new academic year? Come to the Faculty Opening of the Academic Year on Tuesday 8 September. This year's opening will take the form of a mini-festival, where you can get acquainted with the 5 themes of FSW. The educational touch comes from the presentation of the Casimir Prize for innovating teaching teams (check out the nominees).

| Nominate a master's thesis for the Jan Brouwer Thesis Prizes |
Have you supervised a master's thesis in the past year that was exceptional in every way? Then nominate this thesis now for the Jan Brouwer Thesis Prizes. These are awarded annually by the KHMW within various academic fields, such as Behavioural Sciences, Political Science and Anthropology. The prize is intended for master's theses approved in the 2025/2026 academic year. The prize comes with a sum of €3000.

| Save the date for the Education Festival |
On 3 November, the FSW will host its annual Education Festival. This year’s theme is Innovation in testing and assessment, in light of the new faculty vision on testing and assessment to be published this fall. Listen to presentations on various developments and new initiatives in this area and meet your colleagues over cake and drinks during the networking reception.

Digital testing update: improvements to Ans and coffee with the DT team
|
Digital testing tool Ans has released a new version with various improvements for both teachers and students. The question overview when creating tests is now clearer, and handy new filters make the whole system easier to search. Students benefit from an improved digital notepad and easier navigation.

Prepare your Brightspace environments for the new academic year
|
| Have you made any changes to your course’s assessment or grading this year? Or is your course full of old assignments and grade items? If so, be sure to check that the Gradebook in your Brightspace environment is still accurate! If you need assistance or would like to explore options for further automating the calculation of the final grade, please contact SOLO@fsw.leidenuniv.nl. |

Did you know that you can make content in Brightspace visible only to a specific group of students? Release conditions allow you to make content visible only to specific (work) groups, but there are many more possibilities. For example, you can set it up so that students can only take the Week 2 quiz if they’ve earned a passing grade on the Week 1 quiz.
